LaDESS FAQ Is released

The department would like to thank all the legal firms that have provided feedbacks on the newly implemented system LaDESS and a new document has been released to enable the users to have a better understanding of how to use LaDESS.

This document is entitled "LaDESS FAQ Version 1.0". The need for this FAQ document arises from the fact that LaDESS is a web-based application that has been developed to operate through the internet and hence, LaDESS needs to endure the stress of cyber threats. This is the reason why certain keystrokes and intnernet browser functions are not allowed in this application.

Ulu Papar Expedition in the Crocker Range

http://www.facebook.com/album.php?aid=152038&id=111160397818&ref=share

From 11 to 24 Jan 2010, a team of 27 people trekked through the forests and cultural landscapes of Ulu Papar to collect data on the importance of this area to the indigenous Dusun people living in the villages of Longkogungan, Kalanggaan, Pongobonon and Terian.

Conducted jointly by Sabah Parks, Pacos, GDF and the communities of Ulu Papar, this expedition team carried out participatory mapping exercises, household livelihoods and demography surveys, participatory video interviews and snapped some amazing photographs of the landscapes and peoples of Ulu Papar.

Data collected from this expedition will be consolidated into a set of ethnobiological databases that will inform the negotiations between Sabah Parks and the Ulu Papar communities on the opportunities for the collaborative management of this area.

Rules of the lab 1) If an experiment works, something has gone wrong. 2) When you don't know what you're doing, do it neatly. 3) Experiments must be reproduceable, they should fail the same way each time. 4) First draw your curves, then plot your data. 5) Experience is directly proportional to equipment ruined. 6) Always keep a record of your data. It indicates that you have been working. 7) To do a lab really well, have your report done well in advance. 8) If you can't get the answer in the usual manner, start at the answer and derive the question. 9) In case of doubt, make it sound convincing. 10) Do not believe in miracles--rely on them. 11) Team work is essential, it allows you to blame someone else. 12) All unmarked beakers contain fast-acting, extremely toxic poisons. 13) No experiment is a complete failure. At least it can serve as a negative example. 14) Any delicate and expensive piece of glassware will break before any use can be made of it.
