3D Google Building Maker

Help Map Your City in 3D with Google Building Maker

Crowdsourcing is an increasingly popular way to tackle big problems — both Facebook and Google are taking this approach to translating the web into multiple languages.

Now Google is leveraging the wisdom of the crowds for another purpose: the Building Maker tool helps users make accurate 3D models of buildings for representation in Google Earth().

Using Google-provided aerial photographs, you essentially overlay appropriate 3D shapes on top of several different views of a building to construct an accurate model of it. When finished, submit your building to Google() for review. If approved, the model will be added to the 3D Buildings layer in Google Earth.

E-Government Meets Web 2.0

E-Government Meets Web 2.0: Goodbye Portals, Hello Web Services

Gartner recently released a couple of reports on how web 2.0 technologies are being used in e-Government. The reports are entitled The E-Government Hype Cycle Meets Web 2.0 and Government and Web 2.0: The Emerging Midoffice. Both are about how modern e-government efforts are moving away from the 'one stop shop' portal approach that characterized early efforts, and are turning more towards mashups and (to quote the first Gartner report) "a number of mostly adventurous initiatives with blogs, wikis or islands in Second Life." But it's the ecosystem of Web Services - and the reusability of content and services that Web Services enable - that really excites Gartner about web 2.0 in e-government.

How to recycle your technology gadgets

http://www.engadget.com/2009/10/27/how-to-recycle-your-old-gadgets/

How-to: recycle your old gadgets

We see a lot of gadgets come in the door here at Engadget. In fact, getting them in the door is actually the easy part... it's getting them back out that's a bit confusing. Recycling -- something that most of us do on a day-to-day basis with our trash -- is a bit stickier when it comes to gadgets. In recent years, however, most major consumer electronics companies have stepped up their games a bit and begun "take back" recycling programs of their own. There are a lot of resources out there if you want to rid yourself of old gadgets in a responsible way, but it can be a pretty overwhelming prospect, especially if (like us) you have an actual pile of old cellphones which has been growing since 1998. We thought about that a lot, and decided to try to make sense of all the wild masses of information out there on the internet, and to provide our readers a central location to look for all that information. Read on and see what we've come up with!

Like we said, there is a ton of information available, and countless companies that recycle electronics independently. What follows is a guide to individual companies' recycling programs (if they have them), and a list of general and governmental resources that are well-respected and reputed within the industry. Every company handles take back and recycling a bit differently, so be sure to read all of their information before making the decision as to how to handle your old gadgets. For instance, if your mobile phone manufacturer doesn't have a recycling program -- check with your carrier, or one of the independent resources listed. We've done our best to hit all the bases, but feel free to hit us up if we've missed something so that we can add it -- and good luck -- we hope the list helps you reclaim some storage space!

RFID Technology

http://www.magellan-rfid.com/

The RFID technology is now well received by the community for tracking of documents, equipments, animals, vehicles and many other on the list.

The department has deployed RFID technology on the tracking of office copy of titles at the Central Land Registry involving a total of about 150,000 titles. This gives the Title Custodian control over the movement of the all these titles in the Registry.

The project was implemented in 2006 and has been successfully deployed and still in use until today.

Some people worry that artificial intelligence will make us feel inferior, but then, anybody in his right mind should have an inferiority complex every time he looks at a flower.  ~Alan C. Kay
